Pennsylvania road restrictions announced ahead of Friday’s expected snow

Upcoming Pennsylvania road restrictions have been announced ahead of snowy weather expected on Friday. 

As of Thursday afternoon, January 18th, all of Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania will be under Tier 1 restrictions beginning at 3 a.m. on Friday, January 19th, reported the Pocono Record.

Tier 1 restrictions ban the following vehicles: Bobtail tractor trailers; rigs hauling empty or lightly loaded dry van trailers, open trailers or tank trailers; tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded doubles; enclosed unloaded or lightly loaded cargo delivery trucks/box trucks; passenger vehicles towing trailers; recreational vehicles/motorhomes; school buses, commercial buses and motor coaches; and motorcycles.

Tier 2 restrictions are planned for the Poconos and nearby areas at 3 a.m. on Friday, January 19th. These restrictions ban the following vehicles: commercial vehicles towing loaded doubles without chains or alternate traction devices; and all loaded or unloaded school buses, commercial buses, and motor coaches regardless of chains or other traction devices. 

The Tier 2 restrictions will be in effect on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeastern Extension (I-476) south of Pocono Interchange, all of I-78, all of Route 33, I-81 from Maryland to I-80, US 22 from I-78 to New Jersey.
