Semi crosses median and strikes second semi truck head-on, killing two in Ohio

Published:

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating a double fatality crash that occurred near Cambridge on Wednesday.

The crash occurred on Wednesday, December 4, on I-77 in Guernsey County, Ohio.

Officials say that a white 2020 Freightliner was southbound on I-77 near mile marker 49 when the truck veered off the interstate, went through the median, and entered the northbound lanes of traffic.

The white Freightliner struck a red semi truck traveling north on I-77 head-on and sparking a vehicle fire. Troopers said they were unable to determine the make and model of the red truck due to fire damage.

The driver of the red semi, Sukhginder Singh, was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries.

The driver and a passenger in the white Freightliner, Karan Singh and Harleen Kaul, died at the scene.

The crash forced the closure of I-77 for hours, but all have lanes reopened.

OSHP’s Cambridge Division is investigating the crash.

Responding agencies include the Cambridge Fire Department, Byesville Fire, Liberty Fire, Cassell Station Fire, and Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office.
