Wall along New Jersey Turnpike knocked over by tractor trailer crash in Elizabeth on Monday night.
The accident happened on April 15th at about 8 p.m. along the New Jersey Turnpike near the Newark Liberty International Airport in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
According to CBS News, the tractor trailer crashed on the south outer roadway, north of the Goethals Bridge, and smashed into the overpass wall. The force of the collision knocked a portion of the barrier wall onto the roadway below.
The cause of the crash is unclear, but no injuries were reported to the truck driver, and no one was injured by the falling debris. The accident forced the closure of four southbound lanes overnight, but three of the four were reopened by Tuesday morning.
“I’ve been in town for over 30 years and I never imagined I’d see the turnpike missing a wall,” Elizabeth resident Martha Padilla said.
Engineers are assessing the portion of the wall that was damaged in the wreck. The findings from their inspection will determine when the intersection below the overpass will be fully reopened.
