Semi truck destroyed by fire sparked during tow on Maine Turnpike

Maine State Police (MSP) are investigating a vehicle fire that occurred on the Maine Turnpike on Monday morning.

MSP responded shortly before 4 a.m. on December 16 to a vehicle on fire at mile marker 75 on the Maine Turnpike in Auburn.

Troopers say that a tire on a 2018 Kenworth caught fire as it was being towed along the Turnpike.

The fire spread and consumed the Kenworth truck, which was a total loss.

The tow truck was not damaged by the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
