Semi truck fatally struck pedestrian at grocery store loading dock, Florida police say

Police say that a man is dead after he was struck by a semi truck at a loading dock at a DeLand, Florida, business on Thursday.

According to the DeLand Police Department (DLPD), the incident took place around 6 a.m. on December 26 at a Winn-Dixie grocery store located at 1050 W. New York Ave in DeLand, Florida.

Police said that a white tractor trailer was northbound on South Spring Garden Avenue approaching West Howry Avenue.

“The semi-tractor with trailer then turned into the southwest entrance of the loading area of the Winn Dixie to continue traveling eastbound toward the loading docks. Upon making its turn, the semi-tractor hit an adult male pedestrian,” DLPD said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the pedestrian has not been released pending notification of family members.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
