Semi truck hauling radioactive waste catches fire on interstate in Tennessee on Monday afternoon.
The accident happened on February 5th in Nashville, Tennessee at about 2:20 p.m. on Interstate 40 at mile marker 204 near White Bridge Road.
“NFD crews are working to fully extinguish a fire in a semi-truck, which is carrying hazardous materials, near Exit 204A I40 W,” the Nashville Fire Department reported.
“Traffic to the immediate area has been blocked off. Seek an alternative route. No readings were found indicating any levels of any hazards present.”
The department went on to report that the hazardous material is considered low-grade radioactive waste and did not escape its packaging.
The incident caused a traffic backup for miles, but all lanes were reopened at about 5 p.m.
