Several lanes on the 5 Freeway in Los Angeles were shut down on Sunday morning for a wreck involving a semi truck that crashed into the nearby water.
The accident happened just before 3 a.m. on Sunday, December 29th on the 5 Freeway south of the Parker Road exit in Castaic, California.
According to KTLA, the tractor trailer veered off of the roadway and crashed through a guardrail before landing in a shallow waterway by the road. The wreck caused a fuel spill and sent the truck driver to the hospital. The extent of the driver’s injuries have not been released.
Multiple lanes of the Freeway were shut down for cleanup and investigation of the incident.
“[The waterway] basically will drain into the ocean, so we are going to control that spillage and make sure and make sure there isn’t any fuel that goes into the waterway as we extract the vehicle,” said Vincent Mendez of Freeway Towing Company, who helped to clear the wreckage.
No further information on the wreck has been released.
