A semi truck driver was cited after his vehicle was struck by a train in Dalton, Georgia, on Wednesday morning.
The train vs. semi truck collision occurred around 7:00 a.m. on October 2 in the downtown Dalton area.
Police say that a Texas-based truck driver who was unfamiliar with the area told officers that he “did not see a sign warning that large trucks are prohibited from traveling on Hawthorne Street due to the steep angle of the approach to the railroad tracks which makes it impossible to cross without getting stuck.”
The truck driver attempted to cross the tracks and became stuck while traveling west toward Hamilton Street.
The truck driver was able to exit the cab before the train struck the stuck truck, resulting in the cab coming to rest on the west side of the tracks while the trailer was “destroyed” on the east side of the railroad crossing.
No injuries were reported.
The Dalton Police Department cited the truck driver for failure to obey traffic control devices.
