Sinkhole swallows back end of tractor trailer in sudden water main break

Sinkhole swallows back end of tractor trailer in Florida after water main break leaves large hole in road. 

The incident happened on Wednesday morning, January 24th in Boynton Beach, Florida. 

According to CBS 12, the water main broke around 2 a.m. that morning at the intersection of Boynton Beach Boulevard and Lawrence Road, which caused the road to collapse as the tractor trailer drove through the intersection. 

The sink hole is estimated to be around 44 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 10 feet deep. A small crane was used to remove the truck from the hole. No one was hurt in the incident. 

City officials advise drivers avoid the following closures while the water main undergoes repairs:

  • Boynton Beach Boulevard and Oakwood Lakes Drive intersection
  • Boynton Beach Blvd. and Pear Tree Circle intersection
  • Lawrence Road and Kamena Court intersection
  • Lawrence Road and Green Trail Drive North intersection
