Suspect broke into big rig at Oregon rest area with hatchet, ran over trucker, cops say

Published:

Oregon State Police (OSP) arrested a man on assault charges and more following an incident that left a truck driver injured at a rest area in Douglas County.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on July 13 at the Cabin Creek rest area located off I-5 near mile marker 143.

According to an OSP log release, a suspect identified as Jason William Hall, 42, broke into a parked semi truck at the rest area armed with a hatchet.

“He was confronted by two truck drivers and eventually locked inside the trailer where he broke out through the roof. Suspect then accessed his own vehicle and ran over one of the truck drivers as well as striking the semi. Suspect’s vehicle became disabled and the suspect then jumped inside of a good Samaritan’s vehicle where he was eventually caught by law enforcement and taken into custody without further incident,” OSP stated.

Troopers say that the truck driver who was run over was transported to the hospital.

Hall was also hospitalized with injuries.

OSP says Hall has been charged with Assault, two counts of Unauthorized Entry Into a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Endangering, and Reckless Driving.
