One man is dead after running onto a Detroit freeway in front of an oncoming semi truck on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred on December 3rd just before 12:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of M-39 near Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan.
According to WWJ News, an officer was in the area responding to an unrelated call when a citizen flagged the officer down and notified him that there was a “suspicious male in the area topside.”
When the officer turned his car around to investigate the man, the man vaulted over a freeway fence and ran onto the southbound side of the Southfield Freeway. The man then ran in front of an oncoming semi truck and was struck in the center lane. He was then hit by a passenger car.
The unidentified man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The incident is still under investigation and an autopsy is planned.
Officials have not released the man’s identity, nor any information on why a person deemed the man “suspicious.”
