Teen truck driver cited after striking a pickup and a moving train

A truck driver was cited after he struck a passenger vehicle and a moving train in Iowa on Thursday.

The crash occurred near Amana, Iowa, around 9 a.m. on December 26, according to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO).

Police say that Jackson Von Ahsen, 19, was operating a 2007 Kenworth southbound on U.S. Highway 151 when he “failed to notice” an eastbound train approaching the railroad crossing, even though flashing lights were activated.

ICSO said that the Kenworth sideswiped a pickup stopped at the railroad crossing, then hit the train.

No one was injured.

Police said that the Kenworth was a total loss, and that the crash did about $2000 worth of damage to the train. The pickup was also damaged.

Von Ahsen was cited for failure to stop at an active train crossing.
