Thousands of Volvos recalled for ‘unintended acceleration’ risk

Volvo Trucks North America will recall thousands of vehicles that are at risk of “sudden unintended acceleration.”

The recall affects certain 2022-2024 Volvo VN vehicles, according to an October 3 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice.

According to recall documents, “When the Controller Area Network (CAN) communications are interrupted and the vehicle is in limp mode, an incorrect accelerator pedal signal can result in unintended acceleration,” which, in turn, can increase the risk of a crash.

As of October 3, no accidents or injuries have been reported in association with the unintended acceleration issue.

A total of 2,098 Volvo VN vehicles are affected by the recall. The estimated percentage of recalled vehicle that have the defect is 100%.

Volvo dealers will update the electronic control unit (ECU) software, free of charge.

Owner notification letters will be mailed on November 22, 2024.

Truck owners can call Volvo Customer Service at 1-800-528-6586 and reference recall number RVXX2408.
