Police say that a semi truck hauling a load of pipes was eastbound on I-70 when it rolled, spilling the pipes into both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the interstate.
At least three passenger vehicles were involved in secondary crashes.
One of the passenger vehicles was carrying five people. Three of the occupants died and two others were hospitalized with injuries, according to the Wheat Ridge Police Department.
The semi truck driver was also injured.
I-70 was closed in both directions between Ward Rd. and 32nd Ave. Miles-long traffic backups have been reported.
The crash is under investigation.
Unfortunately 3 people have been killed in this crash out west.
