Three dead in multi-vehicle crash after two motorists drove the wrong way on I-29 in Missouri

Three people lost their lives in a multi-vehicle collision that included a semi truck on a Missouri interstate on Sunday.

The crash occurred around 7:20 a.m. on November 17 near Watson, Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) crash report, a 29 year old in a 2023 Kia Sorento and a 32 year old in a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe were both traveling south on northbound I-29.

At the same time, a 30 year old truck driver in a 2024 Volvo semi truck and an 18 year old in a 2013 Ford Focus were driving north on northbound I-29.

The Kia Sorento struck the Ford Focus head-on, ejecting the 18 year old driver. The Kia then hit a bridge abutment and caught fire.

The truck driver attempted to avoid the collision but struck the Chevrolet Tahoe, sending both vehicles off the interstate into the median.

The Kia Sorento driver died at the scene. The driver and an 18 year old passenger in the Ford Focus also died at the scene, and another 18 year old passenger in the Ford Focus was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The Tahoe driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.

A one year old child in the Kia Sorento was hospitalized with moderate injuries.

The truck driver was not hurt.

The incident is under investigation.
