Truck driver arrested on homicide and alcohol charges for fatal two CMV collision in Nebraska

The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) has arrested a truck driver for a fatal crash that occurred near McCook on Thursday morning.

The crash occurred shortly before 7 a.m. on July 18 at the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 25 in Hitchcock County, Nebraska.

According to NSP, “a semi-truck and trailer was traveling northbound on Highway 25 north of Trenton. The semi then failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 6. The semi collided with another semi-truck and trailer that was traveling westbound on Highway 6.”

Wayne Cook, 42, the driver of the westbound truck, died at the scene.

Texas resident Keith Gesegnet, 50, was arrested and booked into Hitchcock County Jail.

Cook has been identified as an employee of the City of McCook at its solid waste transfer station who was hauling trash to a landfill south of Ogallala when the crash occurred.

Gesegnet faces multiple charges, including motor vehicle homicide, tampering with physical evidence, possession of alcohol in a commercial motor vehicle, open alcohol container, and numerous commercial vehicle violations.
