Truck driver burned and dog dead after propane tank explosion in cab

Published:

A trucker was injured and his dog was killed in a truck fire at a TA in Michigan earlier this month.

The incident occurred on December 1st at the TA Truck Stop at 200 Baker Road in Scio Township, Michigan at 2:51 a.m.

According to The Sun Times News, the truck driver and his dog were sleeping inside of the truck cab when the truck caught fire.

“There were several propane tanks in the cab, which exploded during the fire,” said Scio Township Fire Chief Andrew Houde.

The unidentified truck driver was able to escape the truck cab but sustained burns in the process. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Firefighters got the blaze under control in about 15 minutes, but the driver’s dog did not survive the ordeal.

“Unfortunately, the owner’s dog perished in the fire,” said Houde. “It appeared that the owner was living in the truck at the time.”
