Police in British Columbia (BC) charged a truck driver for allegedly striking several parked cars while operating under the influence.
Shortly before 3 p.m. on December 9, BC Highway Patrol responded to Mary Hill Bypass in Port Coquitlam for reports of a tractor trailer driving erratically.
Prior to officers arriving on scene, the truck struck four parked cars, police say.
“BC Highway Patrol stopped and identified the driver thanks to an alert citizen who called police,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “It is unbelievable that a professional driver would consider operating a vehicle of this size while impaired, and that’s why BC Highway Patrol is recommending criminal charges.”
The truck was impounded for 24 hours.
The 42 year old truck driver is facing possible charges of Impaired operation of a motor vehicle and Operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol level over 80 mg/ 100 ml.
In addition to the pending charges, BC Highway Patrol said that the driver is also facing a 90-day Administrative Driving Prohibition and his BC Driver’s License has been seized.
