Truck driver hauling metal beam seriously hurt in construction zone crash, Connecticut cops say

Connecticut State Police (CSP) are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that left multiple people injured on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on December 10 in Norwich, Connecticut.

CSP says that a Kenworth truck was traveling in a construction zone on I-395 southbound when it rear-ended a second truck. The rear-ended truck then struck an SUV and a car.

“A truck hauling a large beam rear-ended the other box truck which caused the load to slide down the length of the trailer and into the cab of the truck which pinned the driver,” said the Yantic Fire Engine Company #1.

The truck driver was trapped inside the cab and required extrication. He was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Two other people suffered minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation by CSP. Witnesses are asked to contact Trooper Timothy Wengloski at 860-848-6500.
