Michigan State Police (MSP) announced that a truck driver involved in a major pileup crash last week had succumbed to his injuries.
On December 7, MSP announced that a semi truck driver who sustained critical injuries in a pileup crash was pronounced dead at Grand Rapids Spectrum Health Hospital on December 3.
The identity of the truck driver was not released, but police say he was a 71 year old Burbank, Illinois, resident.
The pileup crash occurred on Monday, December 2, near Hartford, Michigan.
MSP said that 14 passenger vehicles and 3 semi trucks were involved in a pileup crash near mile marker 46 on westbound I-94 in Van Buren County.
In addition to the 17 vehicles involved in the crash, MSP said that 15 other vehicles were involved in slide-offs near the crash site.
MSP said “driving too fast for conditions [is] believed to be a factor with heaving blowing snow producing whiteout conditions.” The crash investigation is ongoing.
