Trucker shot in head and shoulder on I-40 in North Carolina

A man was arrested and charged on Thursday in connection with an interstate shooting that left a truck driver injured, according to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO).

The shooting took place around 2:30 p.m. on August 1 on I-40 eastbound at mile marker 178 in Davie County, North Carolina.

DCSO responded to the scene after receiving multiple calls about shots fired.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered that a truck driver had been shot in the head and left shoulder while his semi was eastbound on I-40.

The truck driver was transported to a hospital and his current condition is unknown.

“It appears that the suspect drove through Mocksville firing a handgun and then travelled I-40 eastbound from the Hwy 601 exit. The suspect then fired rounds and struck the … truck driver and truck,” DCSO said.

Witnesses at the scene told deputies that a green Chevrolet Suburban may have been involved in the shooting.

Soon after, the Winston-Salem Police Department located and detained the Suburban driver.

Police say that 41 year old John Franklin Barrow Jr. has been charged with Discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and Attempted Murder. Further charges could be added.

The shooting incident remains under investigation.
