Truckers gifted free burgers at weigh station during Canada trucker appreciation week

Truck drivers were hand-delivered burgers at a weigh station in Saskatchewan on Wednesday as part of Canada’s National Truck Driver Appreciation Week equivalent.

Canada observes National Trucking Week the first week in September. On Wednesday, September 4th, the Saskatchewan Trucking Association delivered hamburgers and snacks to truckers who visited the weigh station north of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Staff and volunteers for the STA walked up to drivers’ windows with the offering, as they have every National Trucking Week for the last decade.

“When you walk up, they’re expecting a ticket and they get a burger so they’re pretty happy about things,” said Marty MacDiarmid, who typically works in the office for Favel Transportation, but spent the day volunteering for the STA, reported CTV News.

“They are a little confused as to what’s going on and then once they realize that they’re getting a burger, they’re pretty stoked about it,” said STA marketing & communications coordinator Robbi Bagg. “We need trucks. So we just wanna show our appreciation and our support to them and make sure that they feel like we appreciate them.”

“I think it’s just a way for us to say thank you because I think a lot of times, they go unrecognized for the work that they do, and they really do move our economy. If you go grocery shopping or to the store, everything that’s on the shelf, a truck brought that there,” added STA executive director Susan Ewart.
