Two hurt in three semi truck chain-reaction crash in Illinois construction zone

Police responded to a crash involving multiple semi trucks on I-70 in Illinois on Sunday evening.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on October 27 on eastbound I-70 at mile marker 100, near Teutopolis, Illinois.

Police say that the driver of a Freightliner failed to slow for traffic and collided with the rear of a Volvo. This crash pushed the Volvo into the rear of an International tractor trailer.

The Volvo driver and a passenger inside the International were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.

The Freightliner driver was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, WCIA reports.

According to the Teutopolis Fire District, the crash occurred in an ongoing construction zone on the interstate.
