Vermont police seek help identifying semi driver in ‘ongoing’ animal cruelty case

Published:

The Brattleboro Police Department (BPD) is asking for public help in identifying the driver of a semi truck associated with “an ongoing animal cruelty case.”

Around 7 a.m. on July 5, police were notified about a four-week old pit bull puppy that was found in a dumpster at a Citgo gas station on Putney Road in Brattleboro, Vermont. The puppy was transported to the Humane Society in an “emaciated” condition but ultimately passed away.

BPD investigators were able to identify a truck driver in connection with the animal cruelty case.

Police say that the truck and driver were parked at the Putney Road gas station on July 5 from 1 a.m. to 5:15 a.m.

BPD shared several photos of the semi truck and driver.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the puppy’s death.

“It is heartbreaking to imagine a puppy so young tossed out like yesterday’s trash in a gas station dumpster,” said Joanne Bourbeau, the HSUS’ Northeast regional director. “We are hopeful that this reward will bring forward anyone with information about this heinous crime.”

“While we can’t undo the suffering and untimely death of this innocent puppy, we trust that this reward will incentivize someone to come forward and justice can be served,” said Brenna Galdenzi, secretary of the Vermont Humane Federation’s board of directors.

If you have information on the truck or driver, you’re asked to contact Animal Control Officer K. Crandall at [email protected] or by phone at 802-257-7950.
