Volvo Trucks North America has issued a massive recall for trucks equipped with Bendix EC80
electronic control units (ECUs).
Volvo submitted recall documents on October 23 for certain trucks equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced ECUs.
A total of 126,649 trucks are affected by the recall. The estimated percentage of recalled vehicles with the defect is 100%.
According to NHTSA documents, in the recalled trucks, “the antilock braking system (ABS), Automatic Traction Control (ATC), or Electronic Stability Control (ESC) may set an ABS fault or may stop operating. Other functions which strongly interact with ABS such as Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Collision Mitigation System (CMS) may also fault. In extremely rare situations before the system faults or stops operating, if there is a stability event or an automated braking request, the system may respond incorrectly to the event. This can increase the likelihood of a crash.”
Drivers of recalled Volvos should note that the ABS warning lamp will be illuminated when an ABS fault is detected or when the ABS stops operating.
