Woman dead after speeding into semi parked at rest stop

A  motorist is dead after veering into a rest stop at a high rate of speed and smashing into a parked semi truck on Sunday afternoon. 

The accident happened on September 22nd at about 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the westbound rest area along Interstate 90 the Indiana Toll Road east of the LaPorte exit. 

According to NBC Chicago, a Toyota RAV4 suddenly entered the rest area at a high rate of speed and veered into the trailer of a parked semi truck. The force of the impact sent the car underneath the parked trailer, killing the elderly motorist. The truck driver was resting in his sleeper at the time of the crash and was not hurt in the accident. 

The motorist has been identified as 73-year-old Marcie Rodriguez. 

The crash is still under investigation, but authorities say that alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor.
