Woman dead in second rock throwing incident on California roadway in three days

Published:

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a series of rock throwing incidents targeting vehicles traveling on SR-138 in the Antelope Valley.

Shortly after midnight on October 8, CHP responded to SR-138, east of SR-18, for a reported traffic accident.

When troopers arrived at the scene, they found a female motorist who suffered fatal injuries when a rock was thrown through her vehicle’s windshield as she was westbound on SR-138.

Fox 11 identified the woman as 25 year old Sarina Rodriguez.

A passenger inside the vehicle told police that a rock was thrown from an unknown location.

CHP searched the area with help from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, but no suspect was found.

A similar incident occurred in the same area on October 6, when another driver reported a rock going through their windshield. ABC 7 reports that a victim suffered severe injuries.

CHP is “very actively” investigating these incidents and troopers are requesting help from the public.

“The public’s cooperation is crucial to help bring the perpetrator(s) of this heinous crime to justice and prevent further tragedies,” CHP’s Antelope Division said.

Anyone with information is asked to reach out to CHP at (323) 259-3200.
