113 train passengers left with “lengthy delays” after semi truck gets snagged on tracks

A passenger train was left sitting on the tracks during “lengthy delays” after striking a semi truck that got stuck on the railroad crossing.

The accident happened just before 5 a.m. on February 11th in Gaston County, North Carolina, on the tracks between Kings Mountain and Bessemer City.

According to Queen City News, The train was heading to New York City from New Orleans when it struck a tractor trailer sitting on the tracks. The truck driver had been able to safely exit the rig, but the cab was separated from the trailer, and a load of milk began to spill out of the back as a result of the collision. “More damage (was) done to the actual tractor-trailer,” said Tryonota Fire Deputy Chief Nick Lane.

“There was a fuel leak so we had to contact Gastonia Hazmat to come out and mitigate that leak. Also had a small leak of the product in the back (milk) which was contained, and a little bit of damage to the front of the train, but not much. The railroad is on scene taking care of that situation.”

None of the 113 passengers or train crew were hurt, and the trucker was uninjured, but the incident did cause “lengthy delays” for passengers on the train. No further information has been released.
