12 vehicle pile up on I-83 involving two tractor trailers leaves 6 hospitalized

Six people were hospitalized after a 12 vehicle pile up involving two tractor trailers caused serious traffic backups in Pennsylvania on Thursday night. 

The accident happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Interstate 83 near Exit 39 in Fairview Township, Pennsylvania. 

According to WGAL, the pile up involving two tractor trailers also included 10 other vehicles. The circumstances leading up to the crash have not been released, but first responders reported a large field of debris

A total of six people were injured in the crash and were taken to nearby hospitals. Their conditions are not known. No fatalities were reported. 

A secondary pile up accident occurred in the traffic backups caused by the initial pile up, reported the Fairview Township Fire Department. It is unclear if that secondary pile up resulted in injuries. The accident is still under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.
