The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has released the results from this summer’s Brake Safety Week back in August.
2,296 commercial motor vehicles were placed out of service during Brake Safety Week between August 24th and 30th. This number marks 15.1% of the total number of vehicles inspected. 84.9% of all CMVs inspected did not have brake violations that warrant an OOS order.
A total of 13,700 inspections were conducted over a seven day period in the United States, finding 2,035 brake-related OOS violations. 1,459 inspections were conducted in Canada during the same period, with 260 brake-related OOS violations. 16 CMV inspections were conducted in Mexico, with one brake-related OOS violation. 15,175 CMVs were inspected in total, with a total of 2,296 brake-related OOS orders.
52.2% of the CMVs placed OOS were found to have 20% or more of their brakes in OOS condition. Brake Safety Week 2026 is scheduled for August 23rd – 29th.
