660 violations discovered during weeklong commercial vehicle and hazmat blitz on Arizona interstates

Arizona troopers uncovered hundreds of violations during a targeted enforcement effort on commercial vehicles hauling hazardous materials.

According to a June 20 statement from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Highway Patrol, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement troopers took part in a a week-long enforcement detail with a focus on Hazardous Materials and Hazardous Violations on I-10, I-17, and I-40.

• 240 inspections conducted
• 660 violations discovered
• 22 drivers placed out-of-service
• 41 vehicles placed out-of-service
• 20 citations issued
• 3 leaking hazmat loads fixed on the roadside

Violations discovered during the blitz include:

• Speeding
• Failing to move over for broken-down motorists
• Flat or worn-out tires
• Unsecured loads
• Leaking fuel tanks

“Commercial drivers: ensure your rig is safe before hitting the road and watch your speed while traveling,” AZDPS Highway Patrol advised.
