Arizona trooper spots commercial vehicle hauling SUVs in ‘a very unusual way’

An Arizona trooper encountered an unusual car haul while patrolling in the Phoenix area over the weekend.

On Saturday, June 14, Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol Trooper Sergeant Ruiz spotted a commercial vehicle driving at night along a Phoenix roadway without taillights.

A traffic stop was initiated.

“Are we seeing this right?” AZDPS Highway Patrol joked.

“Upon closer look, he discovered that the semi-truck was hauling a tank-like bed that was loaded in a very unusual way. The cargo? Two SUV-style vehicles. A commercial vehicle inspector responded to the scene and determined that the minimum tie-down requirements had, in fact, been met for the load,” officials said.

It isn’t clear whether any citations were issued during the traffic stop.

While the truck appeared to have met securement requirements, officials took the opportunity to offer load securement tips.
