At least 250 to be laid off from Volvo truck assembly plant in Virginia

Published:

Hundreds of workers are expected to be laid off from jobs at a Volvo plant located in Virginia next month.

Between 250 and 350 workers are to be laid off from the New River Valley Volvo truck assembly plant in Dublin, Virginia, according to reports.

The job cuts will be based on seniority, and it isn’t clear whether they will be permanent.

The layoffs are expected to happen by the end of March 2025.

According to an employee newsletter obtained by WFXR, the layoffs are due in part to the completion of a manufacturing phase of the new Volvo VNL, and also in part to anticipated impacts of tariffs on imported goods.

A Volvo spokesperson also told WFXR that “reduced demand in the heavy-duty truck market” is a reason for the upcoming job cuts.

The facility employs about 3600 people and is the largest Volvo truck manufacturing facility in the world. The plant produces all Volvo trucks sold in North America, including the VNR, VNR Electric, VNL, VNX, VHD and VAH models.
