Published:

The body cam footage from officers responding to the scene of a crash shows the moment officers were told that they had to shoot the monkeys freed in the accident.

The body cam footage shows one of the responding officers speaking to a co-driver from the truck. That driver explains what kind of monkeys they are, and hands over some paperwork with information on the load.Ā

ā€œI’ve seen a lot of s**t. I ain’t seen this,ā€ the officer says.

A short while later, the co-driver is seen answering a phone call, and then relaying the information he had just received from his boss: they have to shoot the monkeys.

ā€œYou gotta shoot it,ā€ the driver says to an officers watching one of the monkeys scamper off into the forest. ā€œYou have to shoot it. They can’t get away. You have to shoot it.ā€

ā€œAll of ā€˜em?ā€ one of the officers asked.

ā€œAll of them,ā€ the driver responds. ā€œAll of the ones that are out.ā€

ā€œEven if we can keep them contained and everything?ā€

ā€œYeah.ā€

ā€œAlright.ā€

A total of five monkeys were shot at the scene. The remaining free monkeys were eventually found and killed by the following weekend.Ā
