California troopers take commercial vehicle out-of-service for zip tie brake fix

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently took a commercial vehicle off the road for major safety violations.

Troopers at CHP’s Donner Pass Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility located in Truckee, California, recently encountered an attempted brake repair that earned the driver a citation and an out-of-service order.

From CHP:

Uhhh, no…Just no. And this was one of multiple brakes that were not operating. Obviously, this is a big no-no. The driver was cited and the vehicle was placed out of service.

Not only was this a criminal violation, but you have to consider the liability associated with this type of intentional neglect.

Don’t take these risks! Repair it right the first time!!

Brake violations like this will come under extra scrutiny later this month. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Brake Safety Week inspection campaign will take place August 24 — 30, 2025, throughout Canada, Mexico and the U.S., with special emphasis on drums and rotors
