California troopers are asking truckers to secure their loads following a “fishy situation” in the Fresno area.
On October 10, 2025, the California Highway Patrol’s Fresno Division began receiving reports about slick road conditions causing multiple crashes and spinouts along a five mile stretch of southbound SR-99 through Fresno.

“After following the fishy trail, officers located the source: a truck hauling 40,000 gallons of fish oil! Due to improper securement and sudden braking, the liquid load shifted and began leaking onto the freeway,” CHP said.

No injuries were reported.
A Hazmat team was brought in to verify that the spill was not hazardous, and then a Caltrans crew helped to clear the fish oil from the roadway so that it could be reopened.
“Always secure your load properly! Liquids can shift quickly, one hard brake or sharp turn can send your cargo (and your day) sliding sideways,” CHP reminded drivers.
