The California Highway Patrol (CHP) called out a truck driver for hauling an over-length load unescorted.
On August 26, CHP’s Auburn Division highlighted a recent incident involving an over-length load driver with no pilot car which resulted in “enforcement action” by state troopers.
From CHP:
“POP QUIZ!!!!
What is 109 ft long and drives across State Route 49 between US Highway 50 and Interstate 80 unescorted…???
THIS GUY!!!
Yes, we’re being serious.
Fortunately no one was injured as this driver took a scenic drive between El Dorado and Placer Counties and through the Confluence….The driver may or may not have crossed over into opposing traffic repeatedly.
We honestly wish we were making this up.
One of our commercial enforcement officers was able to catch up to him and seize the opportunity to take appropriate enforcement action and to educate the driver
Please Please Please!! If you are a driver and have an overlength vehicle, please do not attempt this! There are alternate routes regardless of what your GPS or phone map tells you…We promise.
Thank you to YOU, the public, for watching traffic ahead of you and for calling in to report this ridiculous behavior.“
