CHP shares video of swerving big rig, says driver’s BAC was six times the legal limit

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) shared video of a swerving semi truck with an allegedly intoxicated driver as a reminder of the importance of staying sober while operating a vehicle.

According to CHP’s South Sacramento Division, troopers began receiving calls on November 22, 2025, about a semi truck operating recklessly on I-5 north of Pocket Road in the Sacramento area.

A CHP trooper located the suspect truck near Sutterville Road.

From CHP:

The officer attempted to stop the semi truck, but the driver came to a complete stop in the #1 lane rather than pulling over to the right shoulder. Recognizing the dangers, the officer initiated a traffic break to protect approaching motorists and safely guided the semi to the right shoulder.

Upon contact, the driver displayed clear signs of alcohol impairment. A DUI investigation confirmed it — the driver, who was already on DUI probation, blew a .275 PAS, more than 6× the legal limit (For Class A drivers, the limit is .04 BAC).

No injuries were reported.

“The holidays bring joy, love, and full bellies — but they also come with an increase in impaired driving. Don’t become part of that statistic. Drive sober. Always,” CHP said.
