CHP shuts down garbage hauler with 4 bad brakes, 3 flat tires, and 2 faulty air lines

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) put the brakes on a commercial vehicle driver for operating with a long list of serious equipment violations.

On December 5, 2025, CHP troopers with the Nimitz Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility located in Fremont, California, reported taking a garbage hauler off the road after it entered the scale house with brake, tire, and air line equipment violations.

“Another dangerous rig taken off the road! This garbage hauler rolled into our facility with a laundry list of violations that had it one breakdown away from disaster. Four inoperative brakes, three flat tires, two faulty air lines, and yes…it looked like it hit a partridge in a pear tree on the way here,” CHP said.

Troopers said that multiple out-of-service violations were issued, and the “driver was shut down on the spot.”

In addition to the equipment violations, CHP said that the driver was not in possession of a license and did not have a copy of the vehicle registration.

“When equipment this bad is out on the highway, we all pay the price. Our team is keeping California’s roads safer, one unsafe truck at a time,” said CHP.

CHP shared several images of the equipment violations discovered during the garbage hauler’s trip through the scale facility, which you can view below.
