A trucking company has been fined tens of thousands of dollars after firing a female employee because the job was not “women’s work.”
The Minnesota Department of Human Rights ordered Lakes Concrete Plus to pay $45,000 due to wrongful sexual stereotyping.
According to 5 ABC, the woman reported Lakes Concrete Plus after she was fired from her job as a concrete truck driver because of her gender. The unnamed woman says the manager told her that the job was not “women’s work” and that she needed to find a “more fitting” job for her gender.
Lakes Concrete Plus will be required to implement reforms that ensure a discrimination-free workplace in addition to the $45,000. The settlement money will go to the impacted former employee.
