Dash cam footage showing a truck driver driving into a group of people outside of a strip club was shown during a jury trial in Florida on Tuesday.
27-year-old truck driver Dylan Fogel was taken into custody in August 2024 after driving into a group of people following his expulsion from a strip club in Tampa, Florida. His jury trial began on Tuesday, December 2nd. Fogel is charged with murder in the first degree, DUI manslaughter, two counts of attempted murder in the first degree, and two counts of DUI with serious bodily injury.
According to Fox 13, Fogel’s defense maintained that Fogel believed he was protecting his friend from the bouncers of the club when he drove into the group of people. One man was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other men, bouncers at the club, were seriously injured.
“He has just one goal in mind, to help his friend Anthony Matelsky,” Public Defender Maria Dunker said.
“He had no regard for human life, when he drove a semi-truck toward a group of individuals,” said Hillsborough County Assistant State Attorney Christina Berkowitz, who claims that the video shows this for a fact.
Both Fogel and the father of the deceased man cried when the video was shown during the trial. Testimony is expected to continue on Wednesday, December 3rd.
