Police say that DCSO Corporal Blake Reynolds “was helping a broken-down semi when his patrol vehicle was struck by a northbound semi truck.” The disabled truck was also struck.
Multiple agencies responded, and life-saving measures were attempted, but Reynolds died at the scene.
WFYI reports that the driver of the northbound semi truck that struck the patrol vehicle was hospitalized with injuries. The driver’s company is reportedly cooperating with investigators.
ISP said that the semi was broken down partially in the roadway, so the patrol vehicle was parked behind it to provide protection.
The crash is under investigation by ISP.
Reynolds served in the National Guard prior to joining DCSO in 2022.
