A truck driver is at large after getting stuck in a historic cemetery and ditching his trailer over the weekend.
The incident happened on May 18th at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston, West Virginia.
According to WCHS TV, the truck driver took his tractor trailer through the winding roads of the cemetery for unknown reasons. The semi truck damaged multiple concrete walls and head stones before getting stuck. The truck driver then unhooked the trailer from the truck and drove the bobtail rig out of the historic cemetery, leaving the dropped trailer with the reefer unit still running.
Police were called to the scene and found tire tracks, overturned headstones, and wall damage all along a winding, dead end road within the property. The apparent owners of the trailer were contacted, and only stated that the incident is under investigation.
A heavy wrecker had to be used to tow the trailer backwards up the narrow road. Officials say bad GPS directions may have led the driver into the historic cemetery.
The incident is still under investigation and the truck driver has not been identified.
