Drivers speaking up are mostly against FMCSA’s emergency rule restricting non-domiciled CDLs, public comments show

Published:

The truck drivers who have taken the time to submit their thoughts on the FMCSA’s emergency rule restricting non-domiciled CDLs are mostly against the ruling, public comments show so far.

The rule went into effect on September 29th. The emergency ruling prevents truck drivers who are not citizens or permanent residents, but are otherwise in the country legally, from renewing or obtaining a CDL.

As of Tuesday, October 28th at 3:45 p.m. 3,375 comments had been submitted in the public comment section regarding the ruling. Within only the first and second page of comments, an overwhelming majority were writing to voice their opposition to the ruling.

The first page and a half of public comment shows people mostly against the ruling, with about 17 comments against the ruling, five for the ruling, and about five more were simply commenting on the trucking industry as a whole – not on the ruling specifically. Many of those who wrote their opposition claimed to be non-citizen truck drivers or friends and family of noncitizen drivers who were otherwise operating safely and legally.

Anyone looking to submit a public comment on the ruling may do so here. The comments will remain open until November 28th.
