Elon Musk has once again insisted that the Tesla Semi truck is mere months away from volume production

Elon Musk has reaffirmed the plan for volume production on Tesla semi trucks in 2026 on social media this month.

The Tesla Semi truck was first unveiled in 2017, and was promised in 2019. The first deliveries of the Tesla Semi truck were finally made in December of 2022, and only a small number of customers have received their orders as of August 15th, 2025.

Recent investigations of the Tesla semi truck factory outside of the Giga Nevada Tesla factory show progress on the dedicated semi factory, but mass production of the rig has not yet begun.

Elon Musk recently turned to X to respond to Bill Gates, who says he does not believe batteries are in a place where they can feasibly support semi trucks.

“Tesla Semi will be in volume production next year,” Musk posted

The Tesla factory in Nevada will reportedly be able to produce 50,000 of the class 8 electric semi trucks per year once the facility reaches its optimal production rate.
