Excavator hauled by semi truck pops through bridge deck following strike in Kansas

A major bridge strike involving a semi truck hauling heavy equipment took place in Osage County, Kansas, on Wednesday.

On November 19, 2025, the Osage County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) reported a bridge strike at the South Morrill Road bridge over US-75 near Melvern.

“The bridge deck was impacted by an excavator that was being transported on a trailer traveling on US-75,” OCSO said.

No injuries were reported.

Images shared by OCSO show the upper arm of the excavator piercing through the bridge deck.

Police say that the bridge is closed until further notice.

OCSO did not release information on the driver or trucking company involved in the bridge strike.
