Family of driver crushed against loading dock says situation “makes no sense”

The family of a truck driver killed in an accident at a bottling plant in Texas says that the accident “makes no sense” and feels there are a lot of “inconsistencies.”

39-year-old Arlen Vargas died on Friday, January 24th at the Niagara Bottling plant in Seguin, Texas after he was crushed by a tractor trailer that backed into the dock after receiving instructions to do so from an employee.

According to KHOU 11, Arlen was at the plant to pick up a load, but it is unclear why he was out of his truck, or why he was standing so close to the dock door.

“It just makes no sense, and my brother, he’s very on top of everything. I don’t see, he wouldn’t step behind a truck if he sees the lights in reverse, or if a truck is on, I don’t see him doing that, and I just need closure,” said Arlen’s brother, Kevin Vargas.  “There’s just a lot of questions and a lot of inconsistencies right now, and until we know for sure, I can’t get closure.”

Arlen had recently moved to Texas from California seeking a better life for his seven children, all between the ages of one and 15.

As of Monday morning, the Seguin Police Department had not released any updates on their investigation into the incident.
