The North Carolina Highway Patrol (NCHP) responded to a multiple fatality crash involving an SUV and a semi truck in Bladen County on Sunday afternoon.

The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on January 19 at NC 20 and Purdie-Hall Road.

According to NCHP, 36 year old Maribel Hernandez was operating an SUV south on Purdie-Hall Road when she failed to stop at a stop sign for a semi truck traveling east on NC 20. The SUV entered the path of the semi truck and was struck.

Hernandez and four children between the ages of 15 and 6 died as a result of the crash.

The truck driver was not seriously hurt.

Police say that the truck driver will not be charged because Hernandez was at fault.
