FMCSA revokes three ELDs, tells truckers to revert to paper logs

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has removed three electronic logging devices (ELDs) from the agency’s list of approved devices.

On September 4, 2025, FMCSA placed the following three ELDs on the list of Revoked Devices for failure to meet minimum standards:

Truckers should discontinue using the revoked ELDs and revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours of service data.

Carriers have 60 days, or until November 3, 2025, to replace these ELDs with devices that are approved by FMCSA.

Prior to November 3, law enforcement personnel are encouraged not to cite drivers using one of the revoked ELDs for “No record of duty status” or – “Failing to use a registered ELD.”

After the November 3 deadline, motor carriers who continue to use the revoked devices listed above will be considered as operating without an ELD. Safety officials who encounter a driver using one of the revoked devices should issue a citation for “No record of duty status” and place the driver out-of-service.

“If the ELD provider corrects all identified deficiencies for its device, FMCSA will place the ELD back on the list of registered devices and inform the industry of the update. However, FMCSA strongly encourages motor carriers to take the actions listed above now to avoid compliance issues in the event that the deficiencies are not addressed by the ELD provider,” officials said.
