Former Amazon transportation manager accused of inflating trucking invoices in exchange for $1.5 million

An Arizona man is facing charges related to a scheme to increase the base rates for a third party carrier contracted to Amazon in exchange for more than one million dollars.

Abdullah Alwan has been charged with wire fraud, according to documents filed on July 22, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.

Officials say that Alwan was employed as a Transportation Area Manager for online retailer Amazon from 2016 until November 2021, when he resigned from his position with the company.

According to court documents, Amazon operates a line haul program for the purpose of transporting freight between Amazon facilities and from vendors to Amazon. The company uses a proprietary system called the FMC to create, manage, and monitor trucking routes.

Officials say that when Alwan resigned in 2021, he did not return his company-issued laptop.

Between November 2021 and May 2022, Alwan allegedly “used that laptop to access the FMC and increase the base rate for deliveries assigned to Amazon’s third-party carrier, Blue Line Transport. Once Alwan processed the fraudulent increases in the FMC, Amazon received inflated invoices that were ultimately paid to Blue Line Transport.”

“Alwan received approximately $1,500,000 to access the FMC and make the fraudulent adjustments,” officials said.

“Alwan knowingly and willfully devised and intended to devise a scheme and artifice to defraud for the purpose of obtaining money and property by means of materially false and fraudulent pretenses and representations, and by the concealment and omission of material facts,” the authorities said.

Other documents filed show that Alwan consented to enter into a guilty plea hearing on July 22.
